Career description:
A library technician is responsible for sorting books and other catalogs to their appropriate shelf for easy and accurate searching. Library technicians manage and monitor the materials borrowed from the facility, keeping a record of the borrower’s information and updating details on the library’s database. They also assist the visitors with their inquiries and concerns, leading them to the appropriate area of their needs, and remind everyone of the policies and regulations inside the library.

Common duties:
- Manage activities of departmental tape and data archive facility and associate database management system
- Check in and out library materials
- Process incoming serials and maintain serial records and archives
- Encourage literacy through story times with lower grades and book club discussions
- Prepare journals for binding using voyager to check previous binding records in holdings
- Catalogue library materials to be added to collection, and repair damaged materials
- Work with supervisors, coworkers, and patrons to resolve questions and troubleshoot both electronic and physical item requests
- Evaluate and select database for serials management
- Perform automation services with network operations, workstation and internet issues
- Work collaboratively with other faculty to develop student information literacy skills
- Assist visitors with conducting literature searches and researching preference materials in print online and in computerize data bases
- Prepare, create and execute various online reports, using recommend software for bibliographic database reports and statistical reports
- Prepare and handle complex orders, receipts, and problems with serials, CDs, maps, videos, and periodicals
- Encourage and maintain excellent communication with co-workers providing suggestions for improvements in routines and operations benefiting the staff and the public
