• Choose to specialize in a particular role on the field; attacking or defending, guarding the goal
• Improving rapid maneuvering on skates as well as sudden stopping and changing of direction on the ice
• Practice hockey passing and shooting skills for thousands of hours to acquire the reflexes, muscle memory and teamwork to compete at a high level
• Be mentally and physically prepared for physical confrontations and fights among players
• Travel a great deal
