Career description:
An emergency medical technician (or EMT) is trained to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation services. They may be the first on the scene to respond and have the basic skills and equipment to assess the situation and provide life-saving measures to the patient. EMTs remain calm during stressful situations and transport individuals to medical facilities as efficiently as possible.

Common duties:
- Insert airway adjuncts intended to go into the oropharynx or nasopharynx
- Use positive pressure ventilation devices such as manually triggered ventilators and automatic transport ventilators
- Assist patients in taking their own prescribed medications
- Administration over-the-counter medications with appropriate medical oversight
- Address illness and symptoms of illness and trauma
- Communicate with patient and other doctors
