A dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in conditions involving the skin, hair, and nails. A dermatologist can identify and treat more than 3,000 conditions. These conditions include eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer, among many others.

Common duties:

  • Diagnoses and treats conditions that affect skin
  • Treats issues like plaque psoriasis, rosacea, and acne
  • Identifies symptoms on skin that could be signs of other health conditions
  • Minor surgery like removing moles or warts or doing skin biopsies
  • Extensive surgery such as removing benign cysts or skin cancer are also done
  • Treats skin issues that affect appearance
  • Administers cosmetic treatments such as fillers, chemical peels, and laser hair removal
